Max. Elevation:- Didina -2600
m, Bedni Bugyal – 3354 m
Time Taken :- 5 ½
– 6 hours.
Today I am going to ascend
high and climb to reach an elevation of 14500ft at bedni bugyal. We woke up
early and after packing our tents and stuff we headed to india hikes camp to
have some breakfast. Then after settle down all our bill with the cook there we
started following the trail just behind the india hikes camp. The trail was a
continues ascend on a rocky path and then it disappears in the forest just
above the didina village. The trek route was moderately difficult at the
starting till ali bugyal meadows. The trail passes through dark covered woods
of oaks and coniferous trees.
Horses at Ali Bugyal |
The forest was thick and whole path consist of a series
of zig-zag trails. It really takes a lot sweat from you during this part of the
trail. You won’t get any water supply till ali bugyal. So you have to be very
carefull in using your water bottles. The
serenity of the path gave you the immense pleasure to our soul while
walking up. Whole path was isolated and horrific as well as bewitching at the
same time. Luckily we met a local shepherd on the trail who was carrying his cattle’s
to ali bugyal for grazing and guided us 3-4 times on the way as in forest one
can easily lost a trail and which results in loss of both energy and time.
After 2-3 hours of trekking abruptly all
the forest and trees vanishes suddenly and
in front of me was a lush green carpet of vast meadows stretched over
miles all around. Now we reached at ali bugyal and all the tree lines falls
behind us or below us. Both ali and bedni bugyal are considered to be one of
the finest meadows in whole India. Now all my tiredness disappears by
simply watching the mesmerizing beauty of vast undulating meadows of ali
bugyal. There were many horses and mules over there grazing the soft and sweet
grass of bugyals. Bugyal is local word for meadows.
At the top of Ali Bugyal |
Views from ali bugyal was
breath-taking. Down below you can easily locate the didina village and ending
of tree lines . Surrounding you is the vast undulating meadows and the mighty
garhwal himlayan peaks gave a perfect view in the background in every possible
directions.
Capturing Memories |
We slowed down here for half an hour and while capturing the
pristine beauty of the place both in our eyes and in our cameras. After that we
started heading for bedni bugyal which was gradually descending trail initially.
Now the trail becomes easy as we all started walking barefoot on the grasses of
ali bugyal which rejuvenates us entirely. After reaching the ali bugyal
campsite there is just a 15 minutes zig-zag climbing before the trail levels
out to a gentle trail to bedni bugyal. From here bedni bugyal is just a hour
journey. I reached bedni bugyal at 4pm.The spectacular beauty of bedini bugyal
leaves me awe struck as soon as I reached there. You again enters into a meadow
country which is surrounded by dark
brown mountains on one side and snow-clad glaciers on another side. There is
also a pool there which is known as bedni kund and considered to be shrine for
the local people of the region.

Beautiful Bedni Kund |
This place is also considered to be the starting
point of nanda devi raj jat yatra held in this region in every 12 years and
choti jat yatra every year. There is also a temple have been built dedicated to
goddess Nanda devi.
Bedni Bugyal Campsite |
Here there is no sign of civilization except some trekkers
camp ,a shop, some horses and a cricket pitch. Both gaurav and prashant reached
here much earlier than me and also discovered a wonderful place to pitched our tents.

Perfect shot |
In the evening the cloud disappears and went off in other directions and which
made Mt. Trisul to finally emerged out with all its glory and mightiness. It
was a crystal clear view of Mt. Trishul along with Mt. Nandaghunti and many more
majestic peaks of the region like Haathi parbat, bandarpuch glaciers etc. At
night after dinner prashant managed to
collect some dry woods from the same porter which I met earlier en-route to
didina. Then we started the bonfire and started dancing around it like
lunatics. Meanwhile we also took out the sleeping bags from our tent near the bonfire.
We went into it and slept on the ground itself for an hour. The only source of
light at that night is coming from the bonfire which also kept us warm in the
freezing cold environment.
It was really a one’s in a lifetime opportunity to be sleeping on the natures bed under the twinkling of billions of stars and that too in a freezing cold atmosphere with a burning bonfire near you. |
